Is there a new Monster Hunter game in 2024? We all know that Monster Hunter Wilds is on the way and that an MH game has already come out this year; it’s more a question of when you can expect the next Monster Hunter game. We have some huge Monster Hunter fans at Pocket Tactics, so you can be sure that we’re keeping a close eye on Monster Hunter Wilds, including its platforms, release date, and more.
If you’re curious about other upcoming games, perhaps the idea of a new Resident Evil game, new FNAF game, new Tomb Raider game, new Batman game, or new Star Wars game does. Since you’re here, we assume you’re a huge fan of Monster Hunter games, so why not check out our suggestion for similar titles that you might enjoy on Nintendo Switch?
Is there a new Monster Hunter game in 2024?
Monster Hunter Wilds is the next Monster Hunter game on the horizon, but Capcom doesn’t intend to release the game until next year. So, in terms of a new major MH game, it’s highly unlikely we’ll see anything in 2024, though that’s not to say we haven’t already had a couple of fun Monster Hunter games to enjoy so far this year.
Monster Hunter Puzzles: Felyne Isles is the latest mobile offering in the franchise, following 2023’s Monster Hunter Now. However, it’s not just iOS and Android users who got to experience a bit of MH this year, as Capcom ported some previous games to new platforms. One example is Monster Hunter Stories, the 2016 3DS game arrived on PC, Nintendo Switch, and PS4 in June 2024, eight years after its initial release.
Beyond that, Capcom also released Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin on a new platform. Previously a Nintendo Switch exclusive, Wings of Ruins landed on PlayStation 4 in June. Even though we’ve already had new Monster Hunter games this year, we’ll keep our ears to the ground in case Capcom decides to drop another remaster or port of an older game in the franchise.
New Monster Hunter game platforms
Here’s the kicker, Monster Hunter Wilds is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, but there’s no word of a Switch release. We don’t think all hope is lost for Nintendo fans, as developers and publishers can’t yet say whether or not their software is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 until Nintendo officially unveils the console.
Furthermore, Monster Hunter games are a frequent occurrence on Nintendo Switch, and we can’t see that changing with the Switch 2. If anything, the upcoming bit of hardware should be able to handle the more demanding MH games that had to give the Switch a miss. As for what you can currently play on the platform, our Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin review and Monster Hunter Rise review can tell you how good they are.
However, we do think that a mobile release is beyond the realms of possibility for Monster Hunter Wilds. We’d love to be wrong, especially as more and more triple-A games are targeting the platform, but Monster Hunter Wilds still feels beyond reach. Nonetheless, we’ll keep you up to date if we’re wrong.
What will the new Monster Hunter game be like?
If Monster Hunter Wilds is anything like previous games (and we’ll be very surprised if it isn’t), the next Monster Hunter game will be a very time-consuming affair – hunts can take up to an hour, and you’re actually quite lucky if they only take half an hour in all honesty. To get the job done, you’re likely to have access to a huge range of weapons, our Monster Hunter Rise weapons guide can give you a pretty good idea of what to expect.
When it comes to combat, Monster Hunter caters well to most play styles, offering small and fast weapons, gear that requires skill to use, and hulking pieces of metal that you can lug around and use as though you’re playing Whack-a-Mole. The world is going to be huge, begging you to explore it in search of exotic monsters, of which there’s bound to be plenty.
Given the nature of its combat and battles, Monster Hunter fits the bill as a hard game, so you should probably expect it to be challenging, even if it’s really a battle of endurance.
New Monster Hunter game release date speculation
During the September 2024 State of Play, Capcom confirmed that Monster Hunter Wilds is releasing on February 28, 2025.
That’s everything we can tell you about the new Monster Hunter game. If you want a grand adventure that you can enjoy right now, take a look at our list of The Witcher games on Switch and mobile. It’s the perfect franchise for those who enjoy slaying monsters. It’s kind of Geralt’s entire deal, to be honest.
